This week’s Kindergarten through 2nd grade Spotlight of the Week is Alexis Aldrich.  Alexis is in Ms. Myers 1st grade class.  “Alexis is a good student who tries to do her best in all of her school work.  She is kind to others and loves pets.  We are very glad to have her in our class!”  Alexis enjoys playing with her friends and reading to her parents.

The 3rd and 4th grade Spotlight of the Week is Stephanie McElroy.  Stephanie is in Ms. Maliskas’s 4th grade class.  Stephanie's favorite thing about school is reading.  “She takes her work very seriously and always tries to do her best.”  She wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up.  She is always helpful in the classroom and with her younger brothers and sisters at home.

This Thursday (May 8th) the third graders will be going to the Jamine Moran Museum in Seminole.  Anyone planning to attend, who is not one of our third graders, is responsible for paying their own admission unless they are supervising a group of third graders.  You will be notified if you will be supervising.    Please make sure to send your third grader to school with a sack lunch that day.  Your student should have already turned in their permission slip and $6 to their teacher.  If they have not done so, please turn it in ASAP.  We would also request that you not bring siblings along unless prior arraignments have been made.  Thank You

The 2008 Title I Program Evaluation Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th.  Three sessions will be offered that day.  The times are 8:30 am, 1 pm, and 6:30 pm.  All parents are invited to attend this meeting.  If you are planning on attending this meeting please call or send a note with your child to school as soon as possible.

Luther Alumni Celebration

The Luther Alumni Celebration will be Saturday, May 10th.  We will have a parade at 10:00 a.m. and would appreciate your organization, club, ball team, etc. to participate by making a float, loading up in a truck or just walking as a group in our parade.

Decorate your child’s bicycle.  We will have a group of kids riding together and the best decorated bikes will win a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place ribbon.  The carnival will directly follow the parade.  Booth space is still available.  There is no fee to sponsor a booth.  All the proceeds you collect will go to your church, organization or group.

Talent Show tryouts are here.  If you have a child that would be interested in ‘trying out’ for this year’s talent show the dates for tryouts will this Monday May 5th through May 8th during their designated music period.  This year’s talent show will be Tuesday May 20th at 1pm in the high school auditorium.

Construction on our $430,000 Eastern Oklahoma County Veteran’s Memorial, located at 23rd and Choctaw Road is making great progress.  You are encouraged to stop by anytime and marvel at the deserved credit we are bestowing on our veterans and the civilian defense support people that are the backbone of America.

A major fund raiser for this activity has been the sale of personalized bricks included in the memorial.  Have you been in the military or do you have a relative or friend that you would like to recognize.  Bricks cost $100 each and applications forms are available at the Choctaw City Hall.

Kids Say the Funniest Things!!!

When my youngest daughter, Alicyn was about 3 1/2 years old, she had a terrible fear of spiders. California is full of spiders. You knock them down today, they are back tomorrow. Every time she went to the "potty" she would scream for me to come in with her if she saw a spider, even in the furthest corner of the room. I would assure her that the spider was more afraid of her than she was of it. I would tell her to pretend the spider wasn't there and that it wasn't even thinking about her. One evening, Alicyn was in the bathroom. She yelled for me to come and she yelled loudly. I asked her what she wanted. She yelled back, "Mom, there's a spider in here and he is thinking about me".

Funny Things Kids Say……………..

PaPa had spent hours putting up grandson Shawn's new trampoline.
He was sitting beside it watching Shawn do his "routine" when Shawn asked, "Papa, when I grow up and have a son, will you be dead yet?" Papa replied, "Well, I certainly hope not!"  Shawn replied, "Good, then you can put one of these up for him!"

Alyssa, 3, had spaghetti for lunch with Grammy and Grand Dad.  She explained to her Mommy, Kathryn, that it is spaghetti topped with butter, milk and cheese. She added, "It's so good it makes your heart  ache."

To all mothers and grandmothers

There was a man who had worked all of his life, had saved all of his money, and was a real miser when it came to his money. Just before he died, he said to his wife, "When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me."   And so he got his wife to promise him with all of her heart that when he died, she would put all of the money in the casket with him. Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting there in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, "Wait just a minute!" She had a box with her, she came over with the box and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down, and they rolled it away. So her friend said, "Girl, I know you weren't fool enough to put all that money in there with your husband."  "You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him???!!!"   "I sure did," said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my checking account and wrote him a check. If he can cash it, he can spend it."
