Any senior that has not taken there ACT needs to do so ASAP.  Rose State College has Residual ACT tests usually on the 3rd Thursday of each month.  Must register 4 to 5 days prior to the test date.  Call 733-7320 for further information and tests dates.

 

Rose State College is having several ACT Preparation classes this fall.  The cost is $30.00 Call 733-7392 for more information and to register. 

 

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Ø      Oklahoma Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Club joins the United States JCI organization to provide scholarships to selected high school seniors.  The top 3 applications will be submitted to the national judges. Scholarship amount is $1,000. Go to  

www.usjcisenate.org/modules/scholarship/generated_forms/OK_Scholarship_App.doc for application and instructions.  Deadline is January 1, 2008.

 

Ø      The AXA Achievement Scholarship- AXA Equitable is one of the world’s premier financial services organizations; the company understands the challenges people face in attending college.  AXA us one of the nations largest corporate providers of scholarships. 10- 25,000 scholarships will be awarded; 42- $10,000 state scholarships will be awarded. To qualify, you must demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in college.  To learn more and download an application, go to www.axa-acheivement.com  Apply by December 15, 2007.

 

Ø      The Almen-West OKC Rotary Scholarship is now available online at http://www.rotary5750.org.  Applications will include an essay and are due February 28, 2008.  Award is up to $4,000.

 

Ø      Burger King Scholars-Connect to a brighter future today with a $1,000 scholarship from the 2008 Burger King Scholars Program brought to you by the Have it Your Way Foundation. Up to 700 scholarships are available for eligible high school seniors.  You must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average or higher, work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year, actively involved in community service activities, demonstrate financial need, and plan to enroll in an accredited two/four-year college, university or vocation/technical school by Fall of the application year. Ø      Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors- The Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors Scholarship program will provide financial assistance to those applicants who are seeking a career as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor. Scholarships will be awarded to successful applicants who have demonstrated talent and achievement in the areas of leadership, citizenship, and genuine interest in land surveying.  Amount of scholarship will vary depending on number of applicants.  High school graduates must have a 2.5 GPA or better, attain a 19 or above with strong emphasis on math, and be an Oklahoma state resident.

 

Ø      2008 Sam Walton Scholarship- The community scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the first year of undergraduate study at an approved accredited college or university.  To qualify, a student must be a graduating high school senior and may not be a Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club associate, or the child or legal dependent of a Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club associate.  See the website for general guidelines and scholarship opportunities for associates and children of associates.  The deadline for entry is a postmark of January 14, 2008. Ø      The Phi Beta Kappa Association of Oklahoma City- The Oklahoma City Association of Phi Beta Kappa awards scholarships to outstanding high school seniors in the Oklahoma City area each spring.  This year there are (3) scholarships to be awarded in the amount of $1,000.00. Superior intellectual achievement and future promise are the criteria that the scholarship committee uses for selection.  Must be a graduating senior; have earned a 30 or better on ACT; plan to attend an undergraduate institution that has a Phi Beta Kappa chapter; complete application form and submit essay as indicated on the application form; applicant must attend the Scholarship Committee’s short interview (15-20 minutes), if they are invited; and meet the deadline for the application which is February 15, 2008.

 

Ø      Tom Joyner Foundation 2008 Full Ride Scholarship- One scholarship will be awarded to a freshman entering a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the United States in the fall of 2008.  The scholarship recognizes academic distinction as well as strong character and personal qualities. To be eligible must be graduating in the Spring of 2008; have a minimum high school g.p.a. of 3.5 and a minimum SAT score of 1300 (math and verbal only) or ACT score of 28.  Application deadline January 18, 2008.  Application must be typed and may be accessed at www.blackamericaweb.com

 

SENIORS PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE TIME YOU PUT IN NOW TO SEARCH FOR SCHOLARSHIPS CAN SAVE YOU TIME AND MONEY LATER. TAKE OWNERSHIP OF YOUR EDUCATION AND DO WHAT YOU CAN TO MAKE YOUR DREAMS A REALITY.
