Good Manners Month continues…
It was National Children's Manners Month, so we had a "Caught Using Your Manners" contest at school for the month of September. It was such a success that we have to extend throughout this school year. When a teacher catches a student showing great manners, that child's name will go into a jar for a drawing. Names will be drawn each week, and the students will receive a prize from the library. Please encourage your children to practice their good manners.
Next week is a short week. We will only be in school Monday through Wednesday and out Thursday and Friday for Fall Break. Parent/Teacher conferences will be happening the following week on the evening of Thursday October 22 and on the morning of Friday October 23rd. You should be receiving notice of your child’s conference time. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office. NO SCHOOL FRIDAY OCTOBER 23rd!!!!!
It really seems like we have had our ‘fair share’ of sickness this year. Stomach and Flu-like stuff has been affecting every grade level. If you notice your child running a high temperature or throwing up, please keep them home. We realize that it may be difficult to get your child into see the doctor but however a phone call to the office letting us know they are sick will be enough of a ‘heads-up’. If your child is sent home with a temperature, they will be required to be home for at least 24 hours before they can return.
THE BOOK FAIR IS HERE!! It is that time already. The students previewed the fair this week. The book fair will open for business on Monday, October 12th and run through Friday October 23rd during Parent Teacher Conferences. Money raised at the book fair will go to support the Luther K-8 school library. There are great gift ideas for Christmas and birthdays available. The book fair has books, software, activity kits, and many other items. Be sure and stop by!
The new Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be released on Monday, October 12th. Scholastic will ship them on the 12th to our book fair. This new book as well as the other Diary of a Wimpy Kid books will be available at the fair.
One for Books is a charity supported by Scholastic through the book fair. All money donated will go to purchase items for the library. Then Scholastic matches the money raised and donates that to three children’s charities such as Toys for Tots. This year we are doing a contest to see which Oklahoma college is the most popular, OU or OSU. There will be two donation jars. The jar with the most donations at the end of the week wins.
Pajama Story Time will be Tuesday, October 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the music room. This is a family event for the book fair. Children and their parents may come and listen to Ms. Stephens read selected titles. Afterwards, the book fair will be open for them to visit. Wear your most comfortable jammies and come join us.
Funny Things Kids Say...
My son is 5 and the other day he used the word "actually" in a sentence. I asked him if he knew what the word meant, his reply "actually, I do!"
On our last family vacation, we decided to head to the Washington coast. "Where are we going?" my son asked. "We're going to Seattle," I answered back. My son asked the same question over and over, each time puzzled. We were both losing our temper when finally my son questioned "Dad, Who is Attle and why do we want to go SEE him?!?"
My son had attended his first Sunday School class earlier in the day. After his class, I filled up his inflatable swimming pool and let him wade in the water. Pretty soon, I caught him scooping out all of the water and dumping it out onto the grass. "What are your doing?" I questioned. "Daddy, this water is broken so I'm getting rid of it!" my son replied. I questioned him again "What do you mean its broken?" He replied "Jesus could walk on top of his water, I just sink in mine!"
